The family of actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried announced his passing on 12 April. Having suffered from a long-term illness, Gottfried’s wife Dara informed fans of his death in a statement on Instagram.
As fans pay their respects to the family, many have noticed Dara shares a surname with singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz.

Who is Dara Kravitz?
Wife of the late voice actor, Dara Kravitz, 52, is a film producer and radio podcaster behind such shows as Gilbert Gottfried: Dirty Jokes.
The New York Times reports the couple met in the 1990s after a night at the Grammy Awards. The couple wed in 2007 and went on to have two children – Lily, 14, and Max, 12.
Dara often posts family photos on her Instagram, especially sharing their travels. In October 2021, she introduced the latest member of the Gottfried family, a black-and-tan dachshund named Princess Jasmine. She was named in connection with Gilbert’s most famous roles, he voiced irascible parrot Iago in Disney movie Aladdin.
As Dara and Lenny share a not-too-common surname, fans have been wondering whether they could be related. To avoid confusion, the shared surname is simply a coincidence – the pair are not related.
However, another celebrity sharing the Ukrainian surname is actress Zoe Kravitz, who is a blood relation of Lenny’s. The actress, who most recently appeared in The Batman, is the musician’s daughter.

Lenny is also related to NBC weathercaster and journalist Al Roker. Although they don’t share a surname, they are third cousins.
