Bruce Springsteen’s wife proudly introduces first of their grandchildren

Bruce Springsteen’s wife has revealed they are grandparents as she announced the birth of the first of their grandchildren. 

The 72-year-old Born In The USA singer is now a grandfather as wife Patti Scialfa, 68, shared a snap of their first grandchild with her followers on Instagram.

Following the news of the new Springsteen member, we take a look back at the singer’s family life away from his career. 

Patti Scialfa announces first of her and husband Bruce Springsteen’s grandchildren 

Wife of the rock legend Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, announced on Friday (July 15) that they are grandparents. 

Taking to Instagram, Scialfa, who is a backing vocalist for Springsteen’s E Street Band, introduced followers to their first grandchild, Lily Harper Springsteen, the daughter of their youngest son Sam. 

As well as the sweet snap of the new bundle of joy, Scialfa also shared a picture of Sam and his partner taking a stroll with their new arrival. Along with the special family moment, the 68-year-old wrote: “Walking the baby_. Lily Harper Springsteen.”

Son Sam is a firefighter 

Away from the news that Bruce and wife Patti’s son Sam is now a dad, he is also a trained firefighter. 

Sam currently serves in New Jersey, having been sworn into the Jersey City Fire Department in 2020. 

He graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy just six years earlier and had served at a couple of different departments during that, including his hometown department of Colts Neck Fire Department.

Sam is the youngest of their three kids 

Bruce and wife of more than three decades, Patti, welcomed the eldest son Evan in 1990. 

The couple tied the knot the following June and had daughter Jessica that December. 

Three years later, in January 1994, the couple welcomed their youngest son Sam.

Springsteen’s three children had ‘their own musical heroes’ away from rock legend dad

While their dad is a big name in the world of music, Springsteen once revealed his three children were not too fussed about his music. 

In a 2017 interview with The New York Times, the singer opened up about how over the years, they showed a “healthy disinterest” in his musical endeavours. “They had their own musical heroes, they had their own music they were interested in,” the rock legend added.  

Eldest son Evan, now 31 years old, is seen to have followed his father’s passion for music and has even joined him on stage. 

However, Jessica has pursued a career away from music. While youngest son Sam trained to be a firefighter, Jessica is an equestrian and won silver at the recent Tokyo Olympics.
