The country icon or should we say newfound ‘rock icon’ has unveiled new plans to release a rock album after Dolly Parton proclaimed to a cheering crowd “I’m a rock star now!”
Dolly Parton has finally been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. To celebrate, Parton concluded the 37th Annual Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 5; with a performance of a new rock song, as per Entertainment Weekly.
Let’s discover why the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee is now a fully-fledged ‘rock star’…
Dolly Parton unveils new song and says she’s a ‘rock star’
The Grammy winner wrote a new song, titled Rockin, specifically for the event, the song will also be on the rock album she is currently creating. Parton looked the part too as she changed into a leather outfit with chains, paired with an electric guitar. In her speech, Dolly announced: “I’m a rock star now!” she said. “This is a very special night for me.”
Before playing her new rock song she stated: “If I’m going to go in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I’m going to have to earn it,” Parton said. “And you thought I couldn’t rock & roll.” She then performed her new song, Rockin’, with the Zac Brown Band.
On the new album, Dolly plans to “bring in a lot of the old rock and roll stars and do a lot of the classic rock songs.” Parton’s husband is a big rock and roll fan and she has “always wanted to do an album. But I didn’t have a reason to, (until) they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!” according to the Tennessean.
Dolly Parton asked to withdraw nomination from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
In March 2022, Parton asked for her nomination to be withdrawn from the ceremony stating: “Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she graciously added. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
However, when The Hall officials declined Parton’s request to withdraw, she ended up accepting the nomination. In a statement shared on her social media, Parton wrote: “Of course I will accept it gracefully,” she continued. “Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the @rockhall. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor.”
The singer-songwriter has been eligible for Rock Hall entry for more than 30 years but still didn’t feel worthy of being inducted. Whilst on stage Saturday night, Dolly addressed her initial decision to step back from the nomination process.
Parton said, “I’m sure a lot of you knew that back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t feel like I had done enough to deserve that. I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that, but I’m just so honored and so proud to be here tonight.”
