On Friday, the PGA of America confirmed that Mickelson would not be competing in the PGA Championship. Mickelson departed the sport three months ago after making incendiary comments against the Super Golf League, which is located in Saudi Arabia. He distanced himself from the master in April.
For the first time since 1994, six-time major champion Mickelson missed the Masters last month. He has three tournament victories.
With his 50th-year-old victory at the PGA at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, Phil Mickelson became the oldest major champion in golf history. He hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since failing to make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in late January.

Woods missed the 2008 PGA Championship because he was still recovering from knee surgery after winning the event in 2006 and 2007. Payne Stewart, the U.S. Open winner in 1999, died in a plane accident in October of that year.
