Brenda Wright Lafferty and her 15-month-old daughter Erica were murdered in July 1984, as shown in the film “Under the Banner of Heaven.” Ron and Dan Lafferty, her brothers-in-law, murdered the 24-year-old and her baby child in a ritual murder after Ron believed he had received a command from God to kill them and two others, Chloe Low and Richard Stowe.
Both brothers were charged with the double murders and found guilty in separate trials in 1985. Dan did not receive the death penalty. Dan Lafferty Is Still Alive And Incarcerated at Utah State Prison
Dan Lafferty is now incarcerated in Utah State Prison, where he is serving two life terms. He is still alive and will not be released from the Draper prison.
Ron, on the other hand, died of natural causes on November 11, 2019, at Utah State Prison after spending 34 years on death row and wanting to be executed by firing squad.
Allen Lafferty went home from work on July 24, 1984, to find his wife Brenda and their young daughter Erica had their throats cut. Brenda’s body was discovered wrapped around her neck in the kitchen, and her 15-month-old daughter was found deceased in her blood-soaked crib.
Two of Allen’s five brothers, Ron and Dan Lafferty, fled the state after the murder but were apprehended weeks later in Reno, Nevada. They didn’t say whether or not they killed Brenda and Erica. Instead, Ron claimed he received a vision from God telling him to “eliminate” his sister-in-law and niece, whom he claimed had become “major obstacles” in his path.

Dan Lafferty was sentenced to two life terms, to be served concurrently and without the possibility of parole, for his crimes. Since 1985, he has been incarcerated in the Utah State Prison’s maximum-security unit.
Dan also admitted that the murders of his sister-in-law and niece never bothered him.

Claudine, Dan’s mother, was born the tenth of eleven children in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked as a cosmetologist for nearly 70 years, making lifetime friends. She died on January 28, 2016, at the age of 96.
