Curiosity into whether Drake is vegan sparked this week after YouTube music reviewer Anthony Fantano claimed the rapper sent him a vegan cookie recipe over direct message on Instagram.
Fantano, who is known on YouTube as The Needle Drop, uploaded a video on his channel this week as he shared his surprise over an alleged DM from the One Dance artist.
The YouTuber said that while he didn’t usually share the DMs he gets from artists, he thought “everybody should be aware of” this particular message as he read aloud a cookie recipe he claimed Drake sent him.
As the recipe was for a vegan batch of cookies, curiosity into whether Drake is actually vegan has sparked online.

Anthony Fantano claims Drake DM’d him vegan cookie recipe
This week, Anthony Fantano uploaded a video entitled Drake Slid Into My DMs in which he shared a “crazy” and “unexpected” message he allegedly received from Drake on Instagram.
The alleged DM starts off by referencing how despite Drake and Fantano not seeing “eye to eye,” the rapper wanted to share a vegan cookie recipe with him. The DM included a pretty detailed list of ingredients and instructions on how to make the cookies.
In response to the video, Drake set the record straight as he revealed their actual direct messages over Instagram. While sharing a screenshot to his Instagram stories, the messages sadly included no mention of cookies.

No, Drake is not vegan – he invested in chicken restaurant
The Canadian rapper previously said he was vegetarian in 2018. As per Polygon, Drake shared the news he was a veggie in a Twitch stream in which he played Fortnite alongside streamer Ninja.
As per One Green Planet, during the stream Drake admitted he didn’t eat meat. He said: “I feel like chicken and pineapple on pizza could work, but I don’t eat meat any more.”
Around the same time, the rapper faced speculation he may be vegan. The interest sparked after he posted a photo of himself mid-conversation with a pal as he wrote: “If two vegans are angry at each other… is it beef?”
Drake also entered the world of plant-based food as, in May 2021, Bloomberg reported Drake invested in faux chicken company Daring Foods.
However, recent reports suggest the rapper may now eat meat. In September 2021, another Bloomberg report revealed he had bought a stake in Los Angeles-based restaurant Dave’s Hot Chicken.
The restaurant, as per its website, focuses on chicken topped with the “Dave signature mix” of spices. The Bloomberg article includes a picture of Drake trying the food and stating it tastes “amazing.”
Fantano is actually vegan
While the Hotline bling rapper may not be a vegan, Fantano definitely is. The YouTuber described himself as such in a 2020 profile by the New York Times. He is said to have been vegan for more than a decade and has discussed his diet in his videos.
Fantano also mentions he is vegan in his video on Drake’s alleged DM as he remarks: “To think that [Drake] would come across a vegan cookie recipe and he would say ‘you know who would like that, that Needle Drop guy – he doesn’t eat any animal products.’”
In an interview with Green Room Magazine, Fantano admitted he started out as vegetarian in his late teens before going vegan.
He explained: “Veganism was something I just slowly grew into as I learned to cook with more things that weren’t animal products.” The YouTuber added he follows the diet “mostly for health reasons.”
