Previously, the Georgia native played for the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Steelers selected the University of Tennessee graduate.
On December 21, 2022, the 27-year-old athlete joined the Titans. Within a week, the quarterback threw his first career touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in his NFL debut, a 27-13 defeat.
Aside from his professional career, the footballer strongly advocates against Alopecia Areata. The athlete has been suffering from the condition since he was 10.
Josh Dobbs Health: Alopecia Caused Massive Hair Loss
Josh Dobbs has been suffering from Alopecia Areata for nearly two decades.
Furthermore, many people appear to have misinterpreted the player’s hair loss as being caused by cancer. He does not have cancer, but rather Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease that causes significant hair loss.
Dobbs was diagnosed with the disease when he was eight – in third grade.
In an interview, he described how the initial treatments helped him grow his hair. However, when he was in high school, his hairline began to recede. By the end of high school, he had lost all of his brows and eyelashes.
Until his senior year, cortisone shots kept his alopecia at bay. To prevent hair loss, he needed cortisone shots every week. However, as time went on, the shots became less effective.
So, he decided to shave his head. Since then, Josh’s hair has stopped growing, and he has been bald.
Josh Dobbs Is An Advocate Against Alopecia Areata
Dobbs used his position as a public figure to spread awareness about alopecia, particularly among young people.
Joshua has described how his family and friends have helped him. A former NBA player named Charlie Villanueva, who shared the same condition, also inspired him.
In turn, his message to people is equally motivating, especially for young people affected by the condition. He said you could accomplish your dreams without your hair. Alopecia shouldn’t stand in your way.
He further added we live in a society filled with social media and a focus on beauty. However, if you are comfortable in your own skin, you can be successful and happy at the end of the day. At that point, it doesn’t matter if you have long hair or no hair.
Josh Dobbs Family Background
The Tennessee Titans quarterback was born in Alpharetta, Georgia, on 26 January 1995, to his parents – Stephanie and Robert Dobbs.
His mother worked for UPS as a regional manager in corporate human resources until she retired. On the other hand, his dad is a vice president for Wells Fargo Bank.
Josh began playing competitive football when he was five. He went to Wesleyan School. Afterward, he enrolled at Alpharetta High School.
He was an active football player during his high school days. The young athlete threw for 3,625 yards with 29 touchdowns.
Dobbs initially committed to Arizona State University to play college football.
Later, he changed his commitment to the University of Tennessee and continued playing. In addition, Josh holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering.
The quarterback received the 2017 Torchbearer Award from the institution, the highest distinction given to undergraduate students in recognition of their achievements in the community and the classroom.
