Jennifer Lawrence shocked her fans when she chopped off her long locks almost a decade ago, opting for a pixie cut hairstyle. Jen now has a very different take on the look, joking in an interview that the pictures need to be “scrubbed” from the internet.
During her 73 Questions interview with Vogue, released online on September 6, Jennifer Lawrence made some surprising revelations about her life in the spotlight – and her hair.
When asked about her former hairstyle, the pixie cut, the Silver Linings Playbook actress was quick to dismiss the look. Let’s revisit J Law’s pixie cut days.
Jennifer Lawrence spontaneously cut her hair short
Back in April 2012, Jennifer Lawrence surprised fans when she displayed a new cropped hairstyle, after years of having her hair long.
Harper’s Bazaar spoke with celebrity stylist Mark Townsend, who was responsible for the pixie cut, at the time. Mark told Harper’s: “Yesterday, Jennifer showed up an hour before call time and as she opened the door she was like ‘Mark I want to cut it all off.’ I was like ‘What? Are we allowed to do that?’ And she said ‘Of course, it’s my hair!’
“She wanted tons of layers—so we went with a full-on shag, with bangs and a lot of face-framing layers. I loosened up the ends by chopping into them with thinning shears. As I cut, I lost track of how many times she said ‘I love it!’ She was super excited. It’s the shortest her hair has been her whole life,” Mark Townsend continued.
The pixie cut was the go-to Hollywood look in the early 2010s
While a number of famous faces such as Halle Berry have always rocked a pixie cut, the early 2010s saw the hairstyle have a revival in popularity. J Law was not the only Hollywood actress to opt for a pixie cut at the start of the decade.
After concluding filming on Harry Potter, Emma Watson cut off her hair for a short pixie style in November 2010. Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere also opted for a short style that year, cutting off her long tresses in June. Shailene Woodley chose to cut off her hair for a short style in 2013. Julianne Hough opted for a pixie cut a year later.
Anne Hathaway cut off her signature long chocolate locks to play Fantine in Les Misérables (2012). Jennifer Hudson would crop her hair into a pixie style in October 2013.
Jennifer Lawrence wants her pixie cut pictures ‘scrubbed from the internet’
On Tuesday, September 6, Vogue released their ‘73 Questions‘ interview with Jennifer Lawrence online. This was to accompany her October Vogue cover.
Joe Sabia, the unseen host of 73 Questions, asks Jennifer: “Do you have any advice for anyone that wants to do a pixie cut?”
“First off, that’s mean,” Jennifer responds. “I mean obviously my advice is don’t do it. Think everything through and if I could have the internet scrubbed of those photos… or not scrubbed just add extensions to them. If anyone knows how to do that it’d be great,” the actress continues to say.
