Jimi Hendrix’s last words revealed tragedy and a frightening situation ahead of him. The star, hailed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the “greatest instrumentalist” in the history of rock music, died on September 18, 1970.
The famous guitarist, who was in London at the time of his death, is still remembered today – 52 years later.
The American native passed away at the young age of 27 and has been claimed by the tragic “27 club”, where celebrities and talented musicians die at the young age.
Other stars who died at 27 include Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse.

Tragically, Jimi only enjoyed the mainstream spotlight for four years and didn’t have a long career in the charts.

Jimi, born James Marshall in 1942, had a troublesome childhood where he ended up in the care of his extended family.
Lora Greene pens in Jimi Hendrix: A Biography, that his parents would drink and fight, and it had an effect on the young musician. His mother Lucille passed away in 1958, which led to the young man turning to guitar as a sanctuary after losing his mother.
The love of music began, and Jimi would skip school to spend most of his time hanging out and jamming with other musicians.
He even spent time playing in bands, from the Rocking Kings, the King Kasuals, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames as well as Curtis Knight and the Squires.
After performing with Little Richard in 1966, he recorded a song with the star which made the top 100. After working with Little Richard’s ensemble band on Night Train, the guitarist signed his first recorded contract.
He became known around the world, and legends such as Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney would go to see him. Hendrix also lit his guitar on fire after a show in 1967 – and it just helped cement him in rock history.
Jimi Hendrix’s final words
On September 17, 1970, the star headed out for an evening with friends. He then went home with his girlfriend Monika Dannemann.
It’s said they enjoyed glasses of red wine before Hendrix ingested sleeping pills. Monika tragically found his body the following day.
The musician’s last known words were left in an answering machine message he left for his manager, Chas Chandler.
The Guardian reports he said: “I need help bad, man”.
Tragically, those are the final-recorded words of the star, who was known for taking drugs and alcohol.
His death was recorded as asphyxia after he aspirated on his own vomit. A toxicology report detailed barbiturates were in his system, writes The Independent. Barbiturates are known as sedative-hypnotics.

Chilling prediction about his death
Despite his lasting legacy, his chilling prediction about his own death has remained in the history books as much as his talent.
He once made a bold prediction that he wouldn’t die old.
He visited Morocco the year before his death and reportedly saw the death card during a tarot card reading. Hendrix then turned to a friend and claimed: “I’m going to die before I’m 30”.
Sadly, his prediction ended up coming true as he passed away two months prior to his 28th birthday.
However, following his passing, conspiracy theories continued to emerge. Some claimed that it wasn’t an accidental death, but none were ever proved true.
Even though he is well and truly in the Rock and Roll Hall of Flame for centuries to come, he didn’t have a huge net worth at the time of his death. Jimi Hendrix’s net worth was approximately $20,000 in 1970, which translates to around $150,000 in present day.
Grunge claims his songwriting credits and record sales would have pushed his net worth up to $5 million if he were still alive. Tragically, he never knew the extent of his influence on the industry and other musicians.
