Maggie Wheeler has appeared in a total of 19 episodes of Friends throughout its entire 10 seasons. Although she should have been in only one episode, the directors decided to keep the longevity of her character.

Janice Litman-Goralnik (née Hosenstein) became a well-loved character in Friends. Despite her being known as Chandler’s love interest and an annoying one at that.

The popular television series Friends streamed on NBC from 1994 to 2004. For the younger generation, the series was available on Netflix from 2015 to 2019. To many fans, their love for the series stood in their hearts for perpetuity and especially for that one character.

It wasn’t any of its six main protagonists, but the annoying but lovable Janice Hosenstein. She went from only supposedly starring in one episode to becoming a regular “but appearing occasionally” in the series.

The Focus tells you more about the time that Maggie Wheeler almost got a spin-off Friends show.

Oh My God… Happy 61st birthday, Maggie!

Despite Maggie’s character only being set to appear in one episode, the directors of the popular series decided to turn her role into a recurring one. She almost appeared throughout each of the10 seasons of the series, but only occasionally.

What most caught the attention of the viewers was her high-pitched irritating voice. Also, her hyperactive attitude, nasally laughter, and overbearing presence.

Not only do viewers get to see her antics, but also her on-and-off relationship with Chandler. Yes, her character is mainly known for being Chandler’s on and off love interest until he settles down with Monica.

Even though Janice was an irritating character on some occasions, she was present during some of the most important scenes. Let’s not forget that episode of her and Rachel going into labor at the same time.

As reported by Digital Spy, the character of Janice became a fan-favourite despite only being in 19 episodes out of 236. Could you imagine a show based on constantly hearing, “Oh my God”?

Receiving the support of viewers and the actress had become such a beloved character, Janice’s future seemed promising enough for the possibility of getting a spin-off show based on her Friends character.

As reported, a British writer approached the actress with his pitch idea of her character being “a therapist solving problems”. Although it was a good idea for the 61-year-old actress and was sent to the directors, it didn’t manifest into anything.

She revealed at the time: “I would have absolutely loved a spin-off show for that character. I’m not sure why it never happened. Those things are not in my hands but I guess it was not meant to be – it didn’t happen.”

Although a series about Matt LeBlanc’s Joey character was later released until its cancellation in 2006, fans were rooting for Janice’s appearance as the two characters often argued with each other. However, that never happened.

Could you see yourself attending Janice’s therapy to solve your problems? Who knows!

Life after Friends

It’s been almost 30 years since we met Janice Hosenstein. Her path on television has gone from appearing on various shows like Jack & Jill, CSI, Drake & Josh, and How I Met Your Mother.

Maggie’s voice has also been heard in popular animated series such as Justice League, Kim Possible, and most recently The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants – I guess her voice remains one of a kind.

Since her iconic and remembered appearance in the series, Maggie’s popularity is reflected in her net worth of two million dollars. As reported by Celebrity Net Worth, her infamous catchphrase “Oh my God” became Maggie’s trademark.

It was also used over a thousand times in the span of 10 years.
