A MUM and pop who misplaced a whopping £32,000 price of belongings after a collapsed sewer destroyed the household house haven’t obtained a PENNY in compensation.

David Benqué, 40, and his accomplice Claire O’Brien, 42, are livid and declare Thames Water has refused to take the blame for the carnage.

The couple from Anerley Park, South London, have since blown almost £15,000 changing broken objects however Thames Water deny negligence.

They have even been compelled to maneuver to a brand new house in close by Croydon with their two younger youngsters.

Including the price of the transfer – their whole losses now stand at a staggering £47,000.

But regardless of their stinking plight, Thames Water declare “there were no previous issues with the sewer” so are refusing to cough up any money.

Speaking to MyLondon, graphic designer David recalled the second he was woken at 7am by the “sound and the smell” of stinking sludge.

He stated: “I was alerted to the sound and the smell, something did not seem right.”

David opened a door to examine, however to his horror was met with a “torrent of water” – he stated the staircase resembled a sewage “waterfall”.

He added: “Our furniture started floating and then it got pretty intense.”

Having woken spouse Claire – a textile designer – the pair grabbed their 5 and three-year-old and had been rescued by the fireplace brigade.

But the losses had been big with a laptop computer, raft of electronics and all their youngsters’s toys destroyed within the flood which devastated their basement.

To their shock, Thames Water then requested the couple to signal a letter outlining the corporate is not going to pay for ‘un-restorable’ objects.

David and Claire refused to signal the letter and needed to fork out £1,500 to throw out the wrecked belongings themselves.

They declare Thames Water then instructed the household weren’t even eligible for the hardship fund regardless of their losses.

In response, David stated: “We are lucky we have family and friends that are able to help us, but we are broke as hell now.”

While Claire famous: “The time and stress to get again on our toes and don’t have anything from Thames Water.

“We feel like criminals that do not matter when it’s their pipe that exploded on our lives. It’s not our fault, or climate change, it’s Thames Water.”

CAUSING A STINK

A Thames Water spokesperson stated: “We perceive how distressing sewer flooding is and we sympathise with anybody affected.

“Investigations present there have been no earlier points with the sewer which might have contributed to the collapse, and as such Thames Water was not negligent and isn’t legally responsible for the injury induced.

“As with all sewer flooding, we supplied to wash and sanitise affected
properties, which incorporates eradicating belongings that are too broken
to be returned to the property.

“In order to do this, we ask our customers to sign a document acknowledging that we won’t be reimbursing them for the items removed.”
