Currently taking place is Nikolas Cruz’s sentencing hearing. Cruz, 23, is the suspected gunman in the 2018 Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. New video from that day shows that the alleged shooter went to a McDonald’s right away following the massacre.
On the fourth day of the defendant’s sentencing trial, on Thursday, July 21, video of Cruz dining at a McDonald’s across from John Wilford was played for the jury. Madeline Wilford’s brother, Wilford, was shot and killed by Cruz during the massacre.
Nikolas Cruz will either be sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty at the conclusion of the trial, which is anticipated to last many months.
Nikolas Cruz, who was 19 at the time, entered his former high school in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018, with an AR-15 and several magazines. He was found guilty of attacking faculty and employees, murdering 17 people, and wounding another 17.

Nikolas Cruz was able to escape the site of the crime by disguising himself as one of the other students, who were unaware that he was the shooter.
Cruz was captured on surveillance video first going to a neighboring Subway and buying a drink at the counter before leaving the school with the mob. He then went to a McDonald’s where Madeline Wilford’s brother, one of his victims, was seated.
Cruz allegedly interacted with other Stoneman Douglas students who had been evacuated at the fast food establishment, according to John Wilford. Wilford testified that Cruz approached him informally and even asked if he needed a ride.
Wilford said that he turned down Cruz’s request for a ride because he was attempting to reach his sister. He claimed that numerous kids had visited McDonald’s to reassemble following the assault.
Cruz admitted confessed to his involvement in the massacre last October. Several victims and their relatives testified against him in the continuing hearing by sharing their experiences during the shooting.
