The Texas music scene was rocked today by the death of DJ D Baby, a Houston DJ on the rise. The artist, whose real name was Darian Lewis, reportedly passed away after an accidental fall left her hospitalised a week before.
DJ D Baby’s death was confirmed by a Facebook post shared by her mother, Terri Lewis, late Wednesday night.
Lewis’s cause of death was not made public, leaving many fans to wonder what happened to her.
The artist turned 23 just two weeks before and her career as DJ D Baby was on the rise.

Darian Lewis was a Houston, Texas, DJ and entrepreneur whose career was on the rise. Born on 24 June, Lewis celebrated her 23rd birthday just two weeks before her tragic death.
As a high-school student, Lewis had dreamed of DJ-ing and began learning the craft after starting college at Texas Southern University. She saw it as an opportunity to reinvent herself and had received a bulk of DJ-ing equipment from her family as a graduation present.
“I just introduced myself as DJ D Baby,” she said in an interview with Voyage Houston. “The crazy part about it is, at the time, I could barely DJ. I saw going to college as a way to reinvent myself and start a new journey. The rest is history in the making.”
Soon after that, DJ D Baby started booking gigs and creating her own network of connections in the industry.
The hardest part about that, she said, was being a woman in the club music scene. “There aren’t a lot of us doing jobs in a male-dominated craft,” she told Voyage.
But she took it in her stride and felt “most proud of being the youngest female DJ in Houston making a name for myself. I’m only 22 years old, traveling the world to DJ.”
DJ D Baby’s events were in high demand, with her birthday bash drawing in surging crowds in 2022.

Along with her successful DJ-ing career, Darian Lewis recently opened a Houston business selling hookahs, called The Hookah Heroes.

Darian Lewis’ mom, Terri, confirmed the news of DJ D Baby’s death late on Wednesday night via a short Facebook post.
“My youngest and only daughter has transitioned, please pray for the family, my heart is heavy and broken,” it read.
Lewis had been hospitalised a week before after an fall left her hospitalised. Prayers and get-well-soon wishes flooded both her and her family’s social media accounts.
The circumstances surrounding the DJ’s death have not been released to the public and the accident is currently under investigation.

A week before her death, Lewis reportedly fell from a balcony and was brought to hospital in critical condition as a result of her injuries.

Her partner, Nishia Jackson, made a Facebook post about the incident after news of DJ D Baby’s death broke.
“I’ve decided to break my silence not necessarily for you all, but for she and I,” Jackson’s post began. “I’ve been very low and hurting deeply. This is coming from my heart. I love Darian with everything in me. I was trying to protect her.
“She ran to the patio (never in a million years would I have a reason to think that the next actions would follow)… once she she climbed on the patio chair I sprinted from the door to her but she fell over before I could save her. I literally saw and heard her fall before my eyes.”
Jackson says she immediately ran to her aid and called for help. Lewis was hospitalised in critical condition, with friends and family praying for her recovery.
