Bridget Loves Bernie star David Birney has sadly passed away aged 83, The New York Times reports.

Birney got his start in the entertainment world on Broadway, before venturing into television and movies.

The actor’s life partner Michele Roberge told the Times that David’s cause of death was Alzheimer’s disease, which he had been diagnosed with in 2017.

David Birney passes away aged 83

Actor David Birney has passed away aged 83.

The sit-com star was best known for his role in Bridget Loves Bernie, but is also credited for 1976 series The Adams Chronicles and an adaptation of Serpico.

Prior to his success on television, Birney got his start after studying theatre at the University of California. The actor went on to make his on-stage debut and appeared in seven Broadway productions through 1985, Deadline reports.

Between 1974 and 1989, the late David Birney was married to co-star Meredith Baxter, who also starred in the short-lived sitcom Bridget Loves Bernie.

The couple wed after the cancellation of the show, and went on to welcome three children.

Who is David Birney’s daugher, Mollie Birney?

Mollie Birney is the 37-year-old daughter of the late David Birney and his ex-wife Meredith Baxter.

Born in 1984 in Los Angeles, Mollie went on to earn a BA from Tufts University in 2008, a Masters from Cal State LA,  and a Masters in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Addiction from Antioch University in 2014.

After battling with an eating disorder in her teenage to early adult years, Birney went on to become a counselor in the addiction recovery field, a motivational speaker, and an advocate for mental health.

Mollie has continued her work as a counselor, and often promotes her coaching via Instagram, where she boasts over 17k followers.

“I’m Mollie, I’m Clinical Life Coach. I spent the first few years off my career as a therapist, but I pivoted to coaching because it’s a more irreverent conversation – more collaborative, directive and playful – and because I can bring more of myself to the work,” the 37-year-old wrote.

Outside of her work life, Mollie resides in Utah with her partner and baby.

Meredith Baxter and David Birney welcomed daughter Kate, 47, and son Peter, 37, during their marriage.

Meredith Baxter also has two other children: actress Eva Bush, and son Ted Bush.
