Following the merger of the network’s parent firm Warner Media with Discovery, Christi Paul, co-host of CNN’s New Day Weekend show, announced her retirement from the network on Sunday, June 26. Paul has spent about 20 years working for CNN and its sister network, HLN.

Paul announced that she would be returning to Ohio and working for a local channel there during her final appearance on-air with CNN. The reason the anchor chose to go back to Bellevue, Ohio, is that she is a native there.

Paul will reportedly make her final appearance on the program on Sunday’s edition, according to reports. Variety reports that in addition to Boris Sanchez, a number of anchors will likely headline the program alternately.

Christi Paul left CNN for several reasons.

Christi Paul explained her decision to leave in Sunday’s broadcast to the viewers and co-host Boris Sanchez. The 53-year-old news anchor expressed his emotions by saying

After she made her statement, Brian Stelter, CNN’s lead media correspondent, tweeted about it. While everything was going on, senior producer for CNN and award-winning journalist Bethany Crudele shared her thoughts about Paul’s leaving on Twitter. Crudele stated in her tweet:

Christi Paul revealed that she had made up her mind to leave as early as this year’s January. The co-host went on to say that because her CNN show airs early in the morning, the scheduling interfered with her family time. Added her:

“We eventually stated, “We need to come back home,” as my husband and I glanced at each other. I was sick of feeling exhausted.”
Christi Paul disclosed that she will be looking for a position at a local news station in Ohio during a talk with her former co-host Boris Sanchez. However, neither CNN nor Paul revealed the name of the channel. According to an article in AdWeek, the Ohio native would reveal the specifics of her new workplace in the upcoming week.

The co-anchor worked as a reporter for WDTV and KTVB before joining Warner Media’s network in 2003. Prior to that, she spent several years hosting shows at CNN and HLN. Later, the graduate of broadcast journalism was a stand-in host for Robin Meade’s Morning Express.

Paul co-hosted the news program for more than nine years while working for CNN and the New Day Weekend program. It is now clear why the anchor is quitting the network after hearing the news of her resignation. Paul said why the 53-year-old co-host wants to visit her family in Ohio more often, including her three daughters, her husband Peter Paul, and others.
