Wheelchair-bound Travis played beer pong with Post Malone

Over the weekend, the country singing legend was seen joining Post Malone backstage following his 12 Carat Tour show in Nashville.

The moment was shared by guitarist Billy Strings on Instagram, who also joined Post backstage alongside fellow country star Luke Bryan.

As well as sharing a group photo alongside both Post and Bryan, he shared a video of Post and Travis playing a round of beer pong together. In the clip, Travis is seen launching a ping-pong ball as he is sitting in his wheelchair.

In the comments of the upload, the picker revealed that Travis had actually watched the whole of Post Malone’s show and added that the rapper had even played one of Travis’ songs as he walked off stage. He added: “There was mad respect being shown all around. It was beautiful.”

Another clip of their beer pong game was shared by Travis on His TikTok page. In the caption, Travis described Post as “the nicest guy in the world” as he said he taught him how to play beer pong.

Why is Randy Travis in a wheelchair?

Following his recent backstage appearance alongside Post Malone, curiosity into why the country singer is in a wheelchair seems to have sparked online.

The now 63-year-old singer’s life changed dramatically after he suffered a stroke at the age of 54 years old in 2013.

The singer had a stroke after experiencing complications with viral cardiomyopathy, which as per The Tennessean, is a virus that settles within the heart.

The virus reportedly caused his heart to start to shut down and later led to fluid filling up and accumulating in his lungs.

Country Living explains that Travis’ stroke left him in a coma, with the singer later undergoing life-saving surgery on his brain.

In his recovery, Travis underwent therapy in order to regain his ability to perform physical tasks, which also included learning to walk again.

In the years since the 63-year-old singer is seen to have remained mostly wheelchair-bound.

Mary Travis shares health update after stroke

Last year the country star’s wife, Mary, shared an update on her husband’s rehabilitation following his stroke in an interview with Rolling Stone

In the candid chat, Mary admitted she was initially told that the gospel singer would be “bedridden the rest of his life,” which she, at the time, chose not to accept – “I don’t mind that… and I don’t believe it.”

Reflecting on her husband’s recovery journey, she said it has its ups and downs: “There are plateaus — you’ll see a spurt of improvement, then it’ll flatline for a while.”

While he is mostly wheelchair-bound, his ability to walk over the years has improved. As per The Sun, Travis was said to have been able to walk short distances by November 2014.

He also walked on stage in 2016 as he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. More recently he walked on stage to meet with singer Kane Brown at his concert.
