It has also emerged the couple were found with “multiple” gunshot wounds, according to local outlets.

The shootings have been ruled homicides but cops have said they do not have a suspect or motive in the killings.

Stephen and Djeswende had disappeared after visiting family over the Easter weekend before being found shot dead in the woods.

The couple’s son, Brian Reid, told The Concord Monitor: “The bed was neatly made and a window was open.

“Both their phones are still in the apartment. My Dad’s wallet is also still in the apartment, and both their cars are here.”

Police say they have now received dozens of tips in the case.

New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Geoff Ward told Boston 25 he does not believe there is a threat to the public.

But he warned locals they should “remain vigilant”.

Ward and Concord Police Chief Bradley Osgood have so far refused to comment on whether the shooting was random.

Osgood added: “It’s always smart to lock your doors and be vigilant.”

Ward said: “Anyone who saw the Reids that Monday afternoon, anyone walking on those trails, anyone who has any information related to their disappearance or deaths are asked to contact the Concord Police Department about anything that they saw or heard that afternoon.

“In addition, anyone along the area where the Reids walked that day from Alton Woods to Portsmouth Street to the Broken Ground Trails who has a home or business security system is asked to review their recordings to determine if the Reids or anyone else were captured on those videos.”

Family members said they had not heard from the couple since Monday after they left their apartment in the Alton Woods apartment complex at around 2.22pm.

And after the pair – who had retired to the area three years ago – failed to turn up for a family event on Wednesday, cops, troopers, and K-9 units scoured trails in the surrounding area.

Investigators say they found both of their cars parked in their usual spots at the apartment complex.

Opening an appeal to the public at the time, police said: “They are avid outdoors people and are known to take frequent walks along the trails near their Concord residence.

“Their absence and lack of communication with family-friends are uncharacteristic, and their disappearance is of significant concern.”

They later added that the Reids had no history of domestic violence and were not thought to own firearms.

Since their bodies were found, autopsies ruled that both deaths were homicides.

In a statement at a press conference on Friday, police chief Brad Osgood said: “I’ve always said that Concord is one of the safest cities in one of the safest states in the United States,’

“This is a tragedy, it came out of nowhere, and we’re going to be doing our due diligence and investing all of our resources and working with the state.”

They added that any suspicious behaviour or activity encountered should be reported to the Concord Police Department on 603-225-8600.
