A DRUNK driver who was almost four times over the legal limit has blamed her juice-only diet for a drunken car crash.

Gaynor Godwin, 41, was recorded as having 130mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath – far above the legal limit of 35.

Ms Godwin, who works as a mobile hair stylist, claimed to have only had two wine spritzers at after-work drinks at a local Wetherspoons.

She made the excuse to police as they interviewed her after she crashed her white BMW into another car after leaving the pub.

Defending her in court, Nick Ferrari offered up her recent juice diet as mitigation, saying: “She had for some weeks before been blending fruit and vegetables and had not been eating properly.

Drinking alcohol on such a limited diet would knock anyone for six.”

The cops attending the scene of the crash noted that she was “incomprehensible” when they interviewed her.

Godwin and her two female passengers were unharmed but the driver of the other car was injured and taken to hospital.

The single mum pleaded guilty at Bromley Magistrates Court and was sentenced to 150 hours of community service.

Additionally, she was disqualified from driving for 30 months and was ordered to pay £85 in legal costs and a $95 victim surcharge.

Prosecutor Denise Clewes told the court that “At Bromley Police Station the custody Sergeant noted she was unsteady on her feet and abusive to the arresting officers and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from her.”

She added that the breathalyzer reading was “a very high reading and a high-level of impairment.”

Prosecutors also revealed that Ms Godwin had a previous conviction for drunk driving in Marbella in 2010

Godwin was quoted as saying “We had a few in the pub with dinner, we shared a bottle and a half of wine between three of us and I felt okay to drive.”

She claimed the crash would have occurred even if she was sober, blaming the other driver for stopping suddenly in her path.

Sentencing her, magistrate Alan Austin said: “Your conduct on this day was disgraceful.”

“You were very drunk and you put other people’s lives in danger.”

“You are an intelligent woman and you know the dangers of drink-driving. With all your responsibilities you should not be doing this”,he concluded.
