A Pennsylvania high school was shut down and students dismissed Tuesday morning after a student was stabbed.
Police were sent to the nurse’s office at Coatesville Area Senior High School just before 7:30 a.m. for student with a “slash type” wound to the shoulder. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, and his condition was not immediately known, the Daily Local News reported.
Caln Township and Coatesville Area School District police arrived quickly and put all the buildings on the school property on restricted movement. School buses finished up their elementary school runs at about 9:30 and returned to the high school to take students home; parents who wanted to pick their children up were told to come in at 11:30 a.m. to sign them out.
“We are interviewing students as they are being dismissed and appreciate your patients as we work through this,” substitute superintendent Rick Dunlap said in a message to parents. “Clearly this is an extremely upsetting incident.”
Dunlap said counselors will be available for students and staff when school reopens on Wednesday.
Police said they don’t believe the suspect remained on campus after the stabbing and asked those in the neighborhood with surveillance cameras to check their footage.
