Residents of a Houston neighborhood leapt into action Tuesday to rescue an 11-year-old boy after a man allegedly shoved him into his car and tried to sexually assault him.
Two neighbors heard the boy screaming and grabbed Miguel Angel Cordero Ramirez, 30, holding him down until police could arrive.
Ramirez has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and is being held on a $250,00 bond.
The boy said he was doing laundry Tuesday afternoon at the apartment complex where he lived when Ramirez asked if he could borrow his laundry card. He went to ask his mother, and when he returned, Ramirez pushed him into his car.
“He said ‘obey me, or else you will get killed’ and said he had a gun,” the 11-year-old said.
Ramirez was trying to force him into certain positions, the boy said, while he struggled to get free.
“He grabbed my hands, but then, he grabbed my phone and tried to put it somewhere else. But he forgot my hands were free. So, then, I tried to open the lock … and then, I opened the door,” he said.
When the boy got out of the car, neighbors came running. Cell phone video shows the scene:
“He was trying to get free and said he did nothing wrong and tried to fight them, but they wouldn’t let him,” the victim’s sister said.
The boy told KTRK he wanted Ramirez “to stay in jail forever and never do this again so he can learn his lesson.”
