According to Hello! Magazine, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were tapped to play the characters of James and Margaret Dutton in “1883.” The prequel series tells the story of the first-generation Dutton family as they braved the Oregon Trail and headed through America’s Great Plains. Along the way, the Duttons find death and despair, as well as hope and joy. “The Duttons are a formidable family and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor [Sheridan] and his entire team,” Hill previously said of the role.

Of course, playing a married couple on the screen should have been a breeze for the real-life spouses. McGraw previously told People that it was “incredible to do scenes together,” except for the time that Hill had to slap her husband across the face for the show.

“I was expecting a finger slap, but it was a paw to the jaw. There was 25 years of pent-up aggression going on,” the “Don’t Take the Girl” singer joked. “When you see it on screen, you realize it was a genuine hit.” Meanwhile, Hill also admitted that filming with her husband was a bit more difficult than she thought it would be, especially when it came to their love scenes.
