BRIT holidaymakers have been warned as raw sewage is being pumped into the sea near popular beaches in Costa Blanca.
Spanish authorities were forced to shut three award-winning beaches, popular with British tourists in Orihuela Costa, in Alicante.

The Department of Beaches announced the closure of the Cala Mosca, the Cala Cerrada and the Cala Bosque due to a discharge of sewage, according to local reports.
The General Water Directorate said in a statement that a “high level of contamination of residual origin” has been detected.
The statement adds that “following the instructions of the general management, swimming on the affected beaches has been banned.”
The Department said work was being carried out to resolve the issue but has not specified when will the beaches reopen.

It added that tests were being carried out regularly and the beaches will reopen once the levels are negative.
The department’s Councilor Antonio Sánchez, said they are working to reopen the three beaches for as soon as possible.
Drones and ski jet patrols have been deployed to ensure no one gets into the water.
All three beaches were awarded “blue flag” status earlier this year.

The award is given to beaches that fulfil a list of criteria including accessibility, biodiversity, safety and water quality,
But this is not the first time that raw sewage has been pumped into a Spanish beach.
Spain has a total of 621 “blue flag” beaches, six more than last year.
Back in 2019, an investigation found that three pipes located at Burriana Beach, Torrecilla Beach and near the Mario cliffs were dumping waste into the sea.
A sickening underwater video of the pipes revealed huge amounts of brown water being pumped into the sea, as well as visible lumps of waste.

Meanwhile, tourists were disgusted after the El Prat de Son Bou beach in Menorca was left swamped by stinking “human faeces” earlier this week.
Beachgoers described how a pool of water apparently containing excrement has caused havoc on the popular beach.
