Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has flagged major changes to the state’s vaccine mandate.
Victoria requires proof of being double-jabbed to get into clubs, cafes, restaurants, stadiums, events and casinos.
This is despite the vaccine mandate being dropped in other states, and a leading epidemiologist saying the rule is no longer needed.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the removal of Victoria’s vaccine mandate could happen in a matter of weeks
Speaking on Thursday, Mr Andrews says now would not be the right time to change the rule, but it could happen in a matter of weeks.
‘Things like the vaccinated economy, masks, all sorts of different things will be looked at closely by the public health team, by the Health Minister and we’ll make announcements in due course,’ he said.
‘People know that it’s probably not a great idea to take rules off while cases are going up, we should wait until we get to the peak, be on the other side of that and then we can make some further changes then.
‘We’re certainly talking about weeks, rather than months.’
His comments come after reports that hospitality workers were being verbally abused by customers for trying to enforce the jab mandate.
Mr Andrews described the behavior as ‘disgusting’.

Deakin University’s chair of epidemiology Professor Catherine Bennett told the Herald Sun ‘there isn’t a health argument for the vaccine economy’ to still be in force.
