BRITAIN could bask in sweltering 32C temperatures on the hottest day of a nine-day heatwave, according to the Met Office.

Weather forecasters suggest the mercury will rise over the coming days with parts of UK likely to reach their heatwave threshold.

This weekend is forecast to kick off the heatwave, with highs of 27C in some parts of the UK on Sunday July 10.

And temperatures will hit their peak on Tuesday July 12 with some Brits potentially enjoying scorching highs of 32C in London.

The nine days of sizzling weather will wrap up on Monday July 18 according to weather experts.

The Met Office have predicted that high pressure will dominate the UK, bringing warm and dry weather for many until early next week.

The conditions mean there will be little change to the weather through the rest of the week and over the weekend, allowing temperatures to increase day on day.

A Met Office forecast said: “From Friday and over the weekend temperatures will be in the mid-to-high 20s Celsius for many.

“The situation remains the same into the start of next week, which means further dry and sunny weather and temperatures climbing higher during Monday and Tuesday, likely peaking on Tuesday with temperatures possible in the low 30s Celsius in part of England and Wales, and high 20s elsewhere.”

Brits have already been advised to brace for the impending July heatwave in just days as temperatures climb.

Met Office Meteorologist and Presenter Alex Deakin added: “The strong July sunshine plus the high pressure squishing the air means that temperatures will be building through Sunday and Monday, likely to be over 30 Celsius and perhaps going up a notch further by the time we get to Tuesday.”

Yesterday, Brits took advantage of the glorious weather to make the most of exercising outside.

Later next week, temperatures are still expected to be warmer than average with extreme heat a possibility in some locations.

The Met Office recently update its definition of a heatwave ahead of summer 2022 in light of climate change impacting average temperatures.

A UK heatwave threshold is met when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold.

In London, to be classed as a heatwave, temperatures must reach or exceed 28C for three consecutive days or more and next week certainly meets that criteria.

It comes as Brits could scorch in 35C temperatures during the final third of July.

Today, Brits saw a cloudy start to the day with temperatures steadily increasing.
