The fitness company has issued a total recall of 1.7million Ionic watches sold in the US and worldwide on Wednesday due to the lithium-ion battery inside, which can overheat.

According to the company, one million of the affected watches were sold in the US, while about 693,000 were sold internationally.

So far, Fitbit has received 115 reports in the US and 59 reports internationally of battery overheating.

Two out of 78 people who reported burn injuries in the US have suffered third-degree burns, while 40 people abroad have also reported burn injuries.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission urged customers to “immediately stop using the recalled Ionic smartwatches and contact Fitbit to receive pre-paid packaging to return the device.”

“If you own a Fitbit Ionic, please stop using your device,” the USCPSC announced.

The affected watches were produced between September 2017 and December 2021 for $200 to $330 each.

The smartwatches were sold at Best Buy, Kohl’s, Target, Amazon, Fitbit and other stores nationwide.

The watches affected have the model number “FB503” on the back of the devices near where the bands attach.

The product has a polyurethane band and a 1.4-inch color LCD screen.

The watches were sold in slate blue/burnt orange, charcoal/smoke gray, blue-gray/silver-gray, and a special edition co-branded with Adidas in ink blue/silver-gray.

The recall does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

“The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority,” Fitbit wrote on its website.

“We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.”

Those who return the device will receive a $299 refund and a discount code for 40 percent off some Fitbit devices.
