Forbes is facing backlash over a story that referred to ‘pregnant people’ – not women – about the complications COVID can cause in women expecting a child.

On Thursday, Forbes tweeted a link to the article, which explains how Covid-19 doubled the risk of serious complications during pregnancy.

‘Pregnant people who contracted Covid-19 were more than twice as likely to experience significant complications as those who did not have the virus during the first year of the pandemic, according to a new study,’ the tweet with a link to the article said.

But the use of the term ‘pregnant people’ instead of ‘pregnant women’ has some people on social media in an uproar and garnered intense backlash.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) pressed Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson to define the word ‘woman’ during second day of her confirmation hearing

‘The word you’re struggling with is WOMEN it’s really not that hard to say is it!’ one person tweeted.

Someone else tweeted: ‘Pregnant WOMEN. This is a risk factor that only women can have. It’s a women’s health issue.’

‘Women. We’re women. Or at least use biological females. Only biological females can get pregnant. We endure the pain, we’re facing jail time in the US for termination of pregnancies, our lives can be endangered during birth, our birth control options are threatened. Respect!’ someone else tweeted.

‘In Forbes’s defense, they don’t employ biologists,’ one person tweeted referring Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) questioning of Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson during her confirmation hearings.

Blackburn asked Jackson to define the word ‘woman’ during the second day of her confirmation hearing before the Senate’s Judiciary Committee.

Quoting late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Blackburn said: ‘Physical differences between men and women are enduring. The two sexes are not fungible. A community made up exclusively of one sex is different from a community composed of both.’

‘Do you agree with Justice Ginsburg that there are physical differences between men and women that are enduring?’ the senator asked.

When Jackson claimed she had never heard the quote, Blackburn asked directly: ‘Can you define the word ”woman”?’

‘Can I provide a definition?’ Jackson responded.

‘No, I can’t,’ she declared, before adding: ‘I’m not a biologist’.

Biological male University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas has sparked debate over sex and gender after storming to victory in the NCAA championships while competing against biological males.

Parents and fellow swimmers have long disagreed over Thomas competing at all after she competed as a male for the first three years of her collegiate career. The swimmer, who went by Will before transitioning, was ranked in the low 400s in men’s swimming, but skyrocketed to first on the women’s side.

Thomas is competing within the rules, as she has completed a year of testosterone suppressants,. She started to transition during the pandemic. However, next season, transgender females will have to undergo three years of suppressing testosterone in order to compete against biological women.
