Lualhati Bautista Biography
Lualhati Bautista was born on December 2, 1945, in Tondo, Manila, Phillippines. Her parents were Esteban Bautista and Gloria Torres.
She graduated from Emilio Jacinto Elementary School in 1958 and Torres High School in 1962.
Bautista attended the Lyceum of the Philippines (LPU) as a journalism student before quitting to focus on writing.
Soon, she started her writing career, and her first short story, Katugon ng Damdamin, was published in Liwayway magazine.
Her books are known for the honest realism and courageous exploration of the Phillippine women’s issues.
Her protagonists are often women who confront difficult situations with uncommon grit and strength.
Bautista has won several Palanca Awards for her works, often referred to as the Pulitzer Prize of the Phillippines.
