THE Naval Undersea Warfare Center is in lockdown due to a suspicious package.
Someone reportedly approached the main gate with a possible explosive.
“THIS IS NOT AN EXERCISE” read a statement from the base’s Facebook page.
“Security forces immediately secured the gate and established a cordon around the area. All personnel are directed to avoid the area.”
The device was found during a vehicle inspection. The vehicle driver is currently in custody.
Naval Base Kitsap in Washington is the largest naval organization in Navy Region Northwest.
The lockdown at the main gate was lifted, according to an update via social media.
“Personnel can resume normal operations.”
