LAZY Brits will use the car or hop on a bus if they have to walk for a third of a mile or more.

The maximum distance we are prepared to walk is just 537 metres — or for roughly ten minutes, a poll shows.

It means we make at least seven car trips a month to places, such as the shops, within easy walking distance.

And nearly half would never consider getting off the bus or Tube a stop earlier to get some exercise.

Yves Benchimol, CEO of walking app WeWard, which polled 1,500 people, said: “It’s clear that Brits are jumping in the car a little too easily, even though they acknowledge all the benefits that walking can offer.

“We want to get more people walking, even for just a few more steps each day.”
