A MUM-OF-TWO says her family’s £1,100 Centre Parcs holiday was ruined by a BIRD POO-covered patio – and she’s furious.

Daniela Sponder, 35, her husband and their two small children from Croydon, South East London, had been “really looking forward” to their week-long break at Centre Parcs’ Sherwood Forest site last month.

They paid £1,100 for the stay – splashing out a little extra to ensure their lodge was by the lake – and made the 180-mile drive across England to Clipstone in Nottinghamshire.

But, when the family arrived on July 1, after nearly four hours of driving, they were shocked to find their lodge’s back patio was covered in bird poo.

Ms Sponder, whose children are aged two years and 16 weeks, said: “I understand we were near a lake and it can get dirty very quickly, but I just wanted there to be the highest standard of cleaning possible and it was filthy.”

She raised a complaint with the guest service on the site, and says she was told it would be sorted within the next 24 hours and it would be jet washed.

She says that time came and went, and she was forced to raise the issue again.

Ms Sponder claims eventually workers came out to clean it, but it was they used a bucket, mop and bleach.

She said: “There was no chance my children were going anywhere near that. It was a bit of a disappointing trip in that sense.”

However, a media spokesman for Centre Parcs said: “We wouldn’t and didn’t use bleach in this situation.”

The spokesman said he had no other comments to make on the matter.

Ms Sponder said the family’s trip had been ruined, saying: “We were really looking forward to it, as we couldn’t go abroad this year because of the birth of my daughter, it suited us well and it was a little adventure. But since all that happened, it’s put us right off ever going back.”

After coming home from their holiday on July 8, Ms Sponder said she raised a complaint with Center Parcs, but says she has been left “disgusted” at how it has been handled.

She wants a “sincere apology” from Center Parcs.

Ms Sponder said: “I did receive a response from them, saying that the situation was out of their control, but I thought that’s not good enough, and wanted to escalate it to management. But I don’t believe this was done and I don’t think it was handled in the appropriate manner.

“It’s all well and good when money is taken, but basic safety and hygienic matters were not taken into consideration. We’re talking about young children being able to play outside but they can’t because of the bleach.”

This isn’t the first time a guest has hit out at a holiday spot for not meeting expectations.

Last week, multiple guests slammed a UK glamping site – likening it more to a horror movie than ‘glam’.
