A MUM claims her house is so mouldy her daughter can barely breathe.

Dilkash Wishyar says the youngster regularly comes into her bedroom in the middle of the night complaining about her lungs and the “really bad” smell.

The family have been battling black damp at the two-bed home in Walsall, West Midlands, since moving in four years ago.

But things took a turn for the worse in 2019 when it spread all over the house.

After repeated complaints, the mould was treated by Walsall Housing Group, but Dilkash claims her carpets are still sodden and it is “affecting their health”.

She told BirminghamLive: “It’s everywhere. It is all about damp and mould.

“My little daughter many times comes into my room after midnight, two o’clock, half past one [and says] ‘oh what is happening here? I can’t breathe because it smells really bad’.

“I say ‘what can I do?’ I can’t leave the windows open every time because it’s cold.

“It’s not good for me. I’m not worried about myself, but about my kids.

“Inside the carpet is wet. My bedroom, my kids bedroom, the water comes in.”

Photos taken by Dilkash at the height of the problems, before the mould was treated, show dark splodges on her ceilings, walls, doors and even her kids’ clothes.

It spread to so many of their belongings, the mum-of-two was forced to spend £4,000 on replacing furniture, clothes, shoes and even their TV.

Dilkash claims to have tried everything, including strong bleach, but nothing seems to get rid of the problem.

Walsall Housing Group confirmed it carried out “remedial work to remove the mould” in December 2021 and insisted further work to “improve insulation” is planned for later this year.

Rob Gilham, corporate director of business strategy and assets, said: “We don’t want to see any of our customers living in these conditions and are doing all we can to ensure Miss Wishyar feels happy and comfortable in her home.

“We have been working closely with our customer to address any issues at her home and carried out remedial work to remove the mould in December 2021.

“These photos provided by the customer were taken several months ago before we had the opportunity to carry out this treatment.

“Work is scheduled to improve the insulation of the block and we anticipate this will start in spring/summer.

“We are also updating the storage heaters to a more modern and cost efficient alternative in the next few weeks.

“This is part of a wider programme of work– over the next eight years we will be investing £42.5m to ensure all our homes have a minimum energy rating of C.

“We are keeping in regular contact with the customer and her family to support them where we can.”
