FURIOUS neighbours have hit out at a pet lover who has let her cats take over their street – and turned it into a giant stinking litter tray.

The raging residents in Newcastle, Australia, claim the cats break into their homes and steal their food, and complain that the stench of the cat urine and faeces is overpowering.

Neighbours said they have lost count of how many cats belong to the owner, but said they constantly see the animals roaming the streets and hanging out in their gardens.

One neighbour on Hunter Street told A Current Affair: “We live like this 24/7. It needs to stop.”

Another concerned resident said: “The smell, go out the back and smell up the drive… it’s just terrible and she doesn’t feed them.”

And the situation escalates at night when the cats wander the streets and cause havoc in neighbouring gardens.

The locals claim the pets leave faeces all over their outdoor furniture.

“It’s disgusting, the smell is always there… I prayed for rain cause it will wash it away,” a neighbour said.

Other residents said the cats will come into the house if any doors or windows are left ajar.

Another added: “I know some of the neighbours have had cats giving birth under their houses.”

According to reports, the frustrated neighbours have complained to Newcastle City Council about the ongoing issue.

But the council said it would not be dealing with the cat problem.

A post on their website said: “We will no longer be dealing with this type of request.”

Meanwhile, a pensioner was left furious after his neighbour put up a 6ft-tall fence between their gardens.

Peter Laver, 73, returned from a weekend away to find neighbour Nicholas Williams had put up the structure.
