Controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he has tested positive for Covid-19, but still plans to play in the Australian Open next week.
The Australian player trained in Sydney on Monday but was then a late withdrawal from the Sydney Tennis Classic.
Despite his vow to play in the Australian Open, his participation is now in serious doubt.

The 26-year-old revealed on Instagram that he had got a positive Covid test.
‘Hey everyone, I just want to be open and transparent with everyone,’ he wrote.
‘The reason I have had to pull out of Sydney is because I tested positive for Covid. I am feeling healthy at the moment with no symptoms.
‘I wish everyone all the best and to stay safe where you can.
‘If all goes well I will see you all at the Australian Open.’
Kyrgios missed last week’s Melbourne Summer Set with asthma, but was supposed to play Fabio Fognini at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney on Monday night.
Less than two hours before the match was due to start, Kyrgios’ withdrawal was announced.
As he is currently in NSW, he will be expected to follow the state regulations and isolate for seven days, which would make his participation in the Australian Open in Melbourne logistically difficult, apart from the health implications.

But he could play a first-round match on Tuesday if the draw allows for that.
Kyrgios is currently 114 in world tennis rankings, and even his Covid announcement on Monday has been overshadowed with the news of Novak Djokovic’s visa cancellation being overturned.
