NSW has recorded 6,062 new Covid-19 cases following a disastrous testing bungle, while Victoria’s infections have grown by another 2,738.
One death was also recorded in NSW with 557 Covid patients now in hospital, up from the 521 on Monday.
There are 60 patients receiving care in ICU, another slight jump from the 55 in intensive care on Monday.
Victoria meanwhile sadly recorded four deaths, with 361 residents in hospital, down from the 368 receiving care on Monday.

Sixty-nine Victorians are in intensive care which is a decline from the 80 on Monday.
The new cases in NSW comes after 1,395 residents were incorrectly told they had received negative test results.
The Sydney Pathology testing centre at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst has apologised after a monumental human error saw negative test result text messages issued to people who were tested on December 23 and 24.
The 1,395 impacted patients were told on Christmas Day they were free to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones – giving hundreds of families a false sense of security.
On Boxing Day, the hospital issued a formal apology to 400 patients, warning them ‘human error’ had contributed to the wrong advice and they were, in fact, infected with Covid.
The testing centre confirmed on Tuesday morning that out of an additional 950 residents who had received the wrong testing information, ‘about half’ of them have now tested positive.
This means about 875 people with the virus were wrongly told they were negative.
