She was then seen running into the street in Ipswich, Suffolk, carrying his “lifeless” body as she desperately tried to flag down passing cars.

Tragically Zakarya couldn’t be saved and was declared dead at hospital on September 7 last year.

A witness told an inquest into his death: “The mum flagged me down with the child who looked floppy in her arms.

“Mum tried to put the child in my driver’s seat to take him to hospital but I said we had to wait for an ambulance.

“The child looked white. He looked lifeless.”

Two men including an off-duty paramedic performed CPR on Zakarya until an ambulance arrived around six minutes later.

He was taken to Ipswich Hospital where his mum explained to the tragic circumstances to medics.

Doctor Prathiba Pai, a consultant paediatrician, said: “The mum told the police that she was asked by Zakarya to cook an Afghan dish.

“Zakarya told his mother he was going upstairs to change his trousers.

“Dad was at the refugee centre at the time.

“When Zakarya didn’t return after seven to ten minutes his mum found him in the bedroom.”

Coroner Nigel Parsley said Zakarya’s death was “truly tragic” but did not give a verdict of suicide due to the youngster’s age.

He added: “I have to be sure that he intended the act that led to his death and that he intended it would result in his death.

“I don’t think that any 10-year-old could form that intent.”
