A “destructive” tornado triggered warnings for parts of Arkansas yesterday, with shocking images revealing hail the size of golf balls that fell during the terrifying storm.

Massive damage was reported after the National Weather Service confirmed a large and extremely dangerous tornado was moving between Sharp, Randolph, and Lawrence counties on Friday.

The tornado warning was issued shortly after 7 pm ET.

By 8.30 pm the storm had hit Craighead and Greene Counties with large hail and strong winds, Region 8 News reports.

The mayor of Cherokee Village said there is “severe isolated damage” on the west side of town, according to a tweet.

The damage included shingles and siding torn off of homes.

Roads were closed because of downed power lines.

Boats on Lake Omaha reportedly flipped, while others were ripped from moorings.

A resident of Cherokee Village said the front of his home is gone, cars are crushed, and there is softball-sized hail.

The tornado was reported as “life-threatening” by the NOAA.

At the height of the storm, the news crew at Region 8 posted a photo of them on Twitter sheltering in place in a hallway as the storm was expected to pass north of the station.

Chief Meteorologist Ryan Vaughan and Meteorologist Aaron Castleberry continued to provide live team coverage.

By 9.45pm, the storm had moved east across the Mississippi River.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Yates said a trailer park in Hoxie suffered a “lot of damage.”

Downed trees and property damage were also reported in the area, according to Region 8.
