A SCORCHING heatwave will hit next week as a “Spanish plume” brings boiling 29C temperatures to Britain, say forecasters.

Weather experts have claimed a major heatwave is expected to hit as early as Wednesday and will last for around four to five days.

This weekend Brits are already enjoying highs of 22C to 24C – but by next week the UK will be hit with balmy heat.

Wednesday will see temperatures climb to 26C, but by Thursday Britain will be basking in 29C – the same temperature as the Algarve.

ManchesterLondon and Southampton will see the warmest weather, with cooler, breezier temperatures elsewhere along the coastline.

Northern Ireland looks as though it could see highs of a balmy 24C.

  • Temperatures set to rise

    Forecaster Phil Morrish told the Express: “We’ve got higher pressure developing over southern Spain and this is going to give us some very warm air coming up from the UK as from about Wednesday next week.

    “It’s some very very hot air coming from the North African desert moving northwards into the UK. This is what we call a Spanish Plume.

    “It looks like the Spanish plume will arrive on Wednesday, with temperatures rising into the mid-twenties and could peak on Saturday when we could reach 30C or 31C in the south, 32C in London and in the midlands 28C.

    “In the North, 24C, which is extremely warm for June. As this Spanish plume moves up from the South, it will then last into next weekend before temperatures start to go back to normal.”

    Generally lighter winds compared to Saturday, helping to make the day feel warm, although becoming breezy along the south coast.

    Mainly dry, just a few showers, with sunny spells with maximum temperatures of 23 °C.

    A mixture of sunshine and showers are set to hit Britain tomorrow, according to the Met Office.

    Showers will be heaviest in the north.

    Southern parts will remain mostly dry.

    For those who do not want sand in their sandwiches, there is a useful app that can help beach visitors avoid that outcome.

    Meteorologist Alex Deakin explained the benefits of the app on Twitter, which is being promoted by the Met Office, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and HM Coastguard.

    It allows you to choose the best spot and avoid offshore winds.

    Wind has arrived in northern areas of Scotland, according to the Met Office’s Twitter page.

    Gales have hit northwest Scotland, some of which could be heavy, alongside rain.  

    Sunny intervals and dry spells are set to hit the south.

  • Weather triggers superbloom floral display round Tower of London

    England and Wales to see cloud cover and sun, with short rain showers scattered in places in Scotland and Ireland.

    London is likely to see highs of 23C later on this afternoon, as clouds part ways to see sun shine through.

    Other areas should see similar conditions, wispy clouds and warm temperatures in the sunshine.

    Parts of Scotland might see sporadic showers here and there.
