THE UK is set for a scorcher TODAY as temperatures soar to highs of 34C, as health bosses have issued an urgent warning to Brits across the country.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), along with the Met Office, today issued a Level 3 heat-health alert across London, East of England and the South East.
It means the Met Office’s threshold for a heatwave in all three regions have been met – and healthcare services will need to be on high alert to help high-risk groups.
However, as quickly as temperatures rocket hotter than the Sahara desert, it is forecast to plummet right back down on Sunday as the UK is battered with rain.
The Met Office issued a Level 3 Heatwave Action amid the scorching heatwave, urging Brits to be very careful in the blazing sun.
Advisors from The Met Office say: “Look out for others, especially older people, young children and babies and those with underlying health conditions.
“Close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors.
“Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol, dress appropriately for the weather and slow down when it is hot.”
Sunday brings gloomy highs of 18C with lashing of rain across the British Isles.
Rainfall is likely to hit overnight in the north, and early morning for the south, with sporadic showers dotted across the UK.

Mixed start to this morning
There will be some mixed weather across the UK this morning.
Many Brits will be waking up to some high temperatures and bright sunshine.
However, some will have a damper and cooler start as Scotland and Northern Ireland faces heavy rain.

BBC weather forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said: “Well we are certainly turning up the heat over the next couple of days.
“I think that by the time we get to Saturday, into Sunday, things will start cooling off and storms will come our way as well but not in the short term.”

The dull weather will return as soon as Sunday.
Following the peak of the heatwave on Friday, Saturday will also be warm but Sunday could be a complete wash out.
Rain will hit the north of the British Isles on Saturday, and will work its way down.
Brits may see highs of 18C.

Hot & bothered! How to sleep in a heatwave
If you struggle to sleep during sweltering weather, read the following tips!
- Use thin bedsheets, or look into getting a weighted blanket
- Drink PLENTY of water
- Avoid heavily caffeinated drinks, as they can be dehydrating
- Block out the light during the day, keep curtains shut to ensure your room stays cooler
- Buy a cooling eye mask and keep it in the fridge during the day

Look after the elderly during the heatwave
While some Brits are thriving in the scorching heat and blazing sun, others struggle to cope as their health could be at risk.
If you have any elderly neighbours, or family, make sure to check up on them. Those who are elderly may be forgetful, and grabbing a glass of water every now and again can easily slip from memory.
Here are some tips to help the elderly:
- Age UK say use sunscreen of at least SPF 30. Apply it generously and top up at least every two hours. If you’ve been in water, reapply when you are dry.
- Look out for heat exhaustion signs: muscle cramps in your arms, legs or stomach, mild confusion, weakness or sleep problems. If you have any of these, rest in a cool place and drink plenty of fluids and seek medical advice
- Try to keep window’s open and blinds and curtains shut (but don’t leave the windows open!)

Country to be hotter than SAHARA with temps of 34C
BRITS are set for a scorching end to the week as temperatures are expected to reach highs of 34C – making it hotter than the Sahara today
Highs of 30C can be expected today. Then it will be several degrees higher on Friday, before temperatures tumble over the weekend.
In El Aaiun, Western Sahara, it is unlikely to get above 28C on Thursday or Friday.

It will be a cooler day on Saturday with sunny spells however large areas of cloud will build bringing a threat of showers, mostly across Wales and England.

NEVER leave your dog in a hot car, RSPCA warns
The charity has given a stark warning on leaving pets in cars, which are like baking hot oven EVEN with a window open.
The RSPCA have said that when it’s just 22°C outside, temperatures can quickly rise to 47°C for cars and conservatories.
Scorching temperatures can be fatal to pooches.

Forecast outlook for next week: average temperatures
Brits can wave goodbye to the searing heat, mercury drops next week.
Friday: Brits might see some sporadic showers in Scotland and the north of England. It will remain swelteringly hot with temperatures as high as 34C in London where it will be dry and hot with plenty of sun.
Saturday: Rain is thought to move downwards towards central England, however temperatures will still be warm, with highs of around 24C.
Sunday: Temperatures could drop to around 21C with showers across the south and north east. The rest of the UK is expected to be dry and bright.
Next week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will most likely see showers with dry and bright periods in the northern regions of the British Isles. In the south it should be mostly fine. Temperatures vary, but in the south it is expected to become warm.
