BRITS are set to face several days of grim weather this week – with thunder, heavy rain and gale-force winds of Storm Alex to lash Britain.
Storms will batter the country amid a miserably soggy start to the summer, with forecasters warning of floods and gales.
And the wet weather will continue this week, with heavy gales, thunder and rain to move in by Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Adam Thornhill said: “By the time Ex-Tropical Storm Alex gets near UK shores, it will have transitioned into a mature Atlantic low.
“Although it will have lost much of its strength, it will bring some unseasonably strong winds across the UK – especially to the northwest on Thursday and Friday. “
He added: “The track of the former storm currently looks to be grazing the far northwest of the UK on Thursday and Friday and, although the details are still being worked out, winds could be around 45mph for most in the north of the UK, with a chance of some gusts in excess of 55mph in some exposed northwestern island and coastal areas.”
A yellow weather warning was issued yesterday to alert Brits to possible flooding, travel disruption and power cuts.

With temperatures reaching 22C in some places, this afternoon will be sunny in the south.
Unfortunately, much of the country will still be blanketed in cloud.
Towards the evening, rain will begin approaching from the west, hitting some places in Cornwall.

In a statement, the organisation said” “After a mostly dry and fine start to the week, some wet and windy weather is on the way.
“A low-pressure system that was responsible for some of the unsettled weather over the weekend is now out in the North Sea, leaving behind some showers for eastern coastal areas on Monday and Tuesday.
“Elsewhere, a mix of cloud and sunny spells is the main theme early in the week, with the only other showers likely to be appearing near the south coast early on Tuesday. “

The Met Office has released its nationwide forecast for this evening.
According to the statement, it will be a mild evening, with spots of rain hitting much of the country.
“Rain in the southwest moves northeastwards, with some heavy rain likely for some. Somewhat drier weather returns to some southwestern areas, while parts of Scotland remain dry. Mild in south.”
