YOUR iPhone can quickly become clogged up with apps and photos even if you have loads of storage space.
This is especially the case if you’ve been using various iPhones for years and have different apps you’ve long forgotten about but want to keep all the same.

Thankfully, Apple has a few tricks up its sleeve to tidy things up a bit.
And best of all, it doesn’t necessarily mean deleting your favourite apps altogether.
iOS features a handy app offload feature which will basically remove the app from your phone but keep it available should you want it back up and running.
Better still, any documents or data associated with that app will be kept too, so you won’t lose anything.

Apple will automatically offload unused apps for you – though it’s not clear how long an app has to go abandoned for it to be chosen.
How to turn on Offload Unused Apps
To turn on Offload Unused Apps, go to the Settings.
Find App Store, then turn on the toggle next to Offload Unused Apps.

Alternatively, you can pick and choose the apps you want manually.
Just go to General, then iPhone Storage.
Select the app to do away with and tap Offload App.
Are there any downsides to Offloading Unused Apps?
There is one slight issue to be aware of when offloading apps though.
If an app is removed from the App Store, there is a chance you won’t be able to download it again.

And don’t forget, you’ll still need a connection to download the apps again next time.
For example, it might not be a good idea to offload a hiking app to then try to download it while off on a long walk in the middle of nowhere with no data available.
