TIKTOK has just unveiled a new feature to help users stop scrolling for long periods of time.
On Thursday, the social media platform said it was introducing a new tool to let people control how much time they spend on TikTok.
The initiative is meant to help promote a healthy and positive relationship with technology, TikTok said in a statement.
“We’re taking a number of steps today to help support our community’s digital well-being as they create and discover on TikTok.”
One step is the implementation of a new screentime dashboard that will inform users of how much time they are spending on TikTok.
The tool will alert users to how many times they opened the app a day, and provide summaries of daytime and night-time usage.
Users also have the capability to set a notification reminding them to take a break after spending an allocated amount of time on the app.
For younger members, TikTok will also be introducing weekly digital well-being prompts.
“When someone aged between 13 and 17 has used the app for more than 100 minutes in a single day, we will remind them of our screen time limit tool the next time they open the app.”
Currently, TikTok has some daily screen time limits in place, which help people decide how much time they’d like to spend on the app each day.

Furthermore, both iPhones and Android devices have built-in screen time tracking that lets users monitor and limit their social media usage.
TikTok noted that they hope its new digital well-being tools will help foster a positive relationship between its users and the app.
“We will continue to invest in protecting the well-being of people so that our community can feel in control of their TikTok experience and empowered to express their creativity, make meaningful connections and enjoy culture-defining entertainment,” the social media company said.
TikTok also directed its users to its recently-published guide on how to think about digital well-being.
Located on the website’s Safety Center, the guide encourages TikTok’s community to “reflect more holistically about how they spend their time online – whether on TikTok or elsewhere – and how it makes them feel as they set the boundaries that best suit them.”
