On Tuesday, October 19, ODM leader Raila Odinga commented on the video of missing government analyst Mwenda Mbijiwe, which has left some Kenyans perplexed.

Odinga stated in an interview with Meru County’s Weru TV that he was asked to make a statement regarding Mbijiwe’s disappearance.

TV analysts were going to Meilu County to see sick relatives before their abduction.

Mbijiwe had borrowed a car from local businessman Edward Mwangi, who attempted to reach him on his abduction but was unable.

Mwangi said that he followed the car to Kasarani on June 18 using the vehicle’s monitoring mechanism.

Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the disappearance of security consultant Mwenda Mbijiwe, who was last seen in Tatu City, Kiambu County, after a vehicle he hired was found vandalized at a coffee farm.

Mbijiwe went missing, and his sister appealed to the public for any important information that could lead to his location.

After failing to locate Mbijiwe, the family filed a missing person’s report at Nairobi’s Central Police Station two days later.

The DCI, according to Tamara, had initiated an investigation into the disappearance of an ex-KDF commander who was on his way to Meru to see his mother when he went missing.

Mwenda Mbijiwe, a former Kenya Air Force commander and security and counter-terrorism expert, has been gone for about a month after going missing on June 12, 2021.

His mother, Ms. Gatwiri Jane, gave birth to him in the community of Kimbo in Meru County. Mr. Nkonge Stephen is his stepfather’s name.

Mr. Mbijiwe is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Eye on Security, a security expert, and a consultant.

He uses the platform to empower security experts, provide consulting services, and hold training sessions for industry professionals.

Mwenda Mbijiwe has been Vice President of The Sister Cities Association of Kenya since August 2019.

He also has a younger brother named Bundi Nicholas. Ms. Mbijiwe Tamara had claimed to be Mwenda’s brother; however, her allegations were shown to be false.

Mwenda Muthuri Mbijiwe is a security expert who hails from Kimbo Village in Meru County.

He grew into prominence for his security expertise and has offered security analysis and consulted on counter terrorism both to companies directly and through mainstream media.

Education

Mbijiwe’s early education remains unknown to the public, but a spot check on his LinkedIn profile revealed two institutions in which he is an alumnus.

He attended the University of Nairobi between 2014 and 2017, where he attained a Barchelor’s degree in Armed Conflict and Resolution.

Mbijiwe later enrolled at the University of Tel Aviv, Israel in 2020 and graduated with a Masters degree in National Security and Diplomacy.

Career

The security analyst is a former Kenya Air Force’s Air Defence Control Unit commander.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mbijiwe left the force and went into private practice in 2007. That is when he founded his own security consultancy agency, Eye on Security.

Since it began operations, he has served as its chief executive officer (CEO).

Mbijiwe is also the vice president of the Sister Cities Association of Kenya – SCAK, which is a member of US-based Sister Cities International, whose mission is “To promote global peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time.”

Milestones

Over the course of his career offering consultancy services on matters security, Mbijiwe has worked with and for some of the top institutions in the country.

On numerous occasions, he has appeared on national televisions to give a breakdown, or highlight security lapses, should haves and should dos, pertaining to security threats experienced in the country over the recent years.

Since January 2015, Mbijiwe has been a security consultant for Huduma Kenya.

Publications

In 2008, Mbijiwe published his book, America Fear no Evil. In the book, he highlight’s the United States as a country mandated by God to ensure world peace.

The former military man states that, the biggest challenge to the realisation of world peace and persistent threat from terrorists, is fear.

He therefore, urges the US not to be afraid as the world is counting on them to ensure peace.

Political aspirations

In 2017, Mbijiwe unsuccessfully contested the Meru Gubernatorial seat.

He was a member of the ruling Jubilee Party but defected to ODM after accusing the former of favouritism.

Mbijiwe later dropped out of the race in favour of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, who eventually lost to Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi.

Scandals

Mbijiwe has been at the center of tainting news headlines over the years.

In 2019, he was arraigned in court for allegedly swindling an unsuspecting member of the public Ksh150,000 after claiming to have links with the United Nations.

According to court documents and as widely reported by local dailies, Mbijiwe is said to have conned Fadhili Abdi Mohamed after they met on March 28, 2019 at an unknown location in Nairobi.

He is reported to have misled Abdi to believing that he could secure a job at the UN for his sister Shamso Abdirahman.

He pled not guilty and was released on a Ksh50,000 cash bail.

Questionable Dealings

On June 22, Daily Nation reported that the security consultant was involved with questionable dealings with the police. According to the publication, he was a regular at the Pangani Police Station.

Those close to the TV personality allege that he was often reckless with his licensed firearm and was not afraid of brandishing it in public.

On one occasion, he is said to have brandished his gun and controlled traffic at the Roysambu roundabout on Thika Road.

“He opened his jacket and held a gun that was in his belt holster with one of his hands, and made sure that we saw it,” a source who witnessed the incident told the publication.

The country has in the past few days been rocked with the troubling news of the unknown whereabouts of the security consultant.

His family stated that Mbijiwe has been missing since Saturday, June 12. He was driving a rented car from Nairobi, heading to his rural home in Meru.

His sister Tamara Mbijiwe revealed that his phone had been switched off and the car was discovered abandoned in Tatu City, Kiambu County.

The family filed a missing persons report at Central Police Station in Nairobi and have urged security agencies to expedite investigations in establishing his whereabouts.
