Antonio Brown and his feet were not having a great time while he was training with the Raiders. Brown’s feet were looking like they were suffering from a disease seen in animated movies. However, it was real for the WR and kept him out of the training camp for a significant time.
Moreover, he joked about the condition of his feet on Hard Knocks. But he did not truly reveal the reason for the ailment. Later, the doctors at Raiders training camp told him why his feet look like fish skin and what caused this condition.
As a result, the doctors reveal that Antonio was suffering from a serious case of frostbite on his feet. It has resulted in the skin sloughing off his feet, looking like fish scales. Further, the medical professionals were unable to provide a specific date for the athlete to make his return.
Brown sought treatment for his feet and was able to get them back to normal. But this condition is the result of a form of physiotherapy and many athletes suffer from the same issue that the Raiders‘ WR was going through.
What caused the frostbite to Antonio Brown?
The physiotherapy that causes the fish skin condition is known as whole body cryotherapy. It is a supplement to traditional ice baths. The therapy includes standing in a sealed room and being subjected to extremely cold, dry air. For about 2 to 3 minutes, the air pours in. The temperature is usually very low.
It is widely popular in Japan and is recently being used to treat the injuries of athletes. It heals their muscle sprains and minor tears sustained while playing on the field. However, exposing the body to such low temperatures and dry air causes it to react differently.
Even though Brown recovered from the injury, it led to questions being raised about cryotherapy. While more precaution is being taken now, it caused a very ugly condition to the Buccaneers‘ WR’s feet.
