Wozniacki’s famous Grand Slam win in 2018

The Danish player played many years on the tour and spent a total of 71 weeks in the no.1 ranking. However, many questioned her ranking because she always failed to perform on the big stage, i.e. a Grand Slam tournament. Speaking about being no.1, she once said, “I think obviously when you’re No. 1 in the world, if you’ve been there, you have a target on your back and you’re a favorite every time you play, and every time you come into the media after a lost match it’s basically a disappointment regardless of who the opponent is because everyone is lower ranked.”

During the 2018 Australian Open, she was the no.2 in the world. It was a blessing in disguise for her, as she won her first-ever Grand Slam title by beating the world no.1 Simona Halep in the final. After this win, she became the first Danish player to win a Slam. Also, she regained her no.1 ranking after displacing Halep from the top.
