‘Don’t Even Have Time for a Rematch’ – Serena Williams Boasted About Her Skill as She Defeated a 10-Year-Old Andy Roddick

During her youth days, Serena Williams worked hard day in and day out to carve a niche in her tennis career. Her father, Richard Williams used to take her and her sister, Venus, to the public tennis courts to train. The hard work paid off as the Williams sisters achieved success right from the early stages of their careers.

One of the memorable matches of Serena’s career was her battle against a 10-year-old Andy Roddick. The two were good friends and battled it out one day. The 23-time Grand Slam champion emerged victorious in that encounter. She claimed that she defeated Roddick 6-1. On the contrary, Roddick claimed that the scoreline was much closer at 6-4 in Serena’s favor. Subsequently, Roddick asked for a rematch to which Serena had an interesting reply.

Serena Williams turned down Andy Roddick’s rematch request

During one of the post-match press conferences at the Australian Open in 2009, Serena talked about whether she would accept Roddick’s rematch request. She said, “I don’t think it’s necessary to have a rematch, you know one. I was clearly the better player and it really, I beat Roddick, you know, Andy Roddick. Yeah so, there’s just really no need to have a rematch. It’s unimportant now.”

Further, talking about the scoreline of their match, Serena said, “It was 6-1, and yeah absolutely, score absolutely speaks for himself and you know he always jokes rematch, rematch but I don’t even have time for a rematch.”

Recently, the former World Number 1 announced her much-awaited comeback to tennis. She revealed that she’ll be participating in this month’s Wimbledon Championships after receiving a wildcard entry in women’s singles.
