Floyd Mayweather is one of the select few boxers who has reached the top echelon of the sport. The Mayweather era lasted from 1996 to 2017, with Money being the top name in boxing through the 2000s and early 2010s. Notably, the five-division champ retired with an unbeaten record of 50-0 after beating Conor McGregor, marking the end of one of boxing’s most illustrious careers.

However, it looks like Mayweather is not yet done as he looking to make one last run to face The Notorious One in a rematch. The pair previously faced each other back in 2017 in Mayweather’s last professional bout. Following this, he has only competed in exhibition bouts with Logan Paul and Don Moore.

Mayweather claims the start of a new era

According to a report from media publication The Irish Mirror, Mayweather stated that this would mark the end of his career and the beginning of a new era with his protege Gervonta Davis leading the way.

Floyd sees it as the end of the Mayweather era and the beginning of the Gervonta Davis era,” said a source from the Sun newspaper. It is reported that the fight is very close to being finalized. However, there are some conditions being negotiated before the bout can be officially announced.

It looks like Mayweather has a lot of confidence in Davis and trusts him to achieve the heights he reached in his boxing career. Training with the GOAT himself, Tank is certainly on the right path.

Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis: A rocky relationship

Gervonta Davis has fought under Mayweather’s promotions for the majority of his career. He is 27-0 under the promotion winning belts in the super featherweight, super lightweight, and lightweight divisions. However, things got heated between the two leading up to his last fight with Rolando Romero as Tank cited his frustration with the promotion and claimed he would part ways with ‘Money’ after the fight.

Davis had multiple options after his victory to sign with another promotion. However, he surprisingly ended up signing with Mayweather and mended ways with his mentor and promoter.
