George Russell completed his much-awaited move to Mercedes at the start of this season. The former Mercedes junior driver had spent the last 3 seasons at Williams. On the recent F1 podcast, he opened up about his switch to the Brackley outfit.

The Britton was asked about his feelings on signing for Mercedes. He said, “It was definitely a huge moment… to join the greatest team of this era…”.

However, he went on to add “…but if I don’t perform and I go and get my ar** kicked by the greatest driver of all time. But what does that mean? Because in a year’s time I’d be out of the door.”

Russell further elaborated on his situation by saying, “The image of the guy climbing the mountain and he thinks he’s at the top and when he looks up and the peak’s miles away and when he gets there, there’s another peak”.

He also shared his ambitions with the switch, “I wanna be a world champion I wanna win races.” However, George also added, “signing the contract didn’t guarantee anything.”
