HOF Owner Jerry Jones Goes Back On 2021 Statement After He Deems Coach Jimmy Johnson’s Induction to Dallas Cowboys ROH “Undecided”

The Dallas Cowboys have tasted major success since Jerry Jones took over as owner. However, Jones was not the only one who paved the way. Coach Jimmy Johnson is an underappreciated hero for the Cowboys. However, Jerry is still hesitant to induct Coach Johnson into the Cowboys’ Hall of Fame.

The NFL inducted him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 for all his achievements. Coach Jimmy Johnson was responsible for establishing the franchise. He led the Cowboys with two Super Bowl victories and two conference championships. However, even after over 28 years, the former head coach still has to be inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor.

In 2021, Jerry Jones said he would induct Jimmy Johnson into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. He made the revelation in front of a national television broadcast. But in recent times, GM/Owner Jones has looked reluctant to add Coach Jimmy as this year’s inductee. This year’s Ring of Honor list misses out on the legendary head coach.

Jones mentions “Nothing to talk about there, at all. That’s something that I never really decided upon almost until a week or two before I do it. Obviously, the people that are qualified are career-qualified. That is a career process, but as far as the timing of any individual that will ultimately be in that Hall of Fame — I don’t have that timeframe.”

Weirdly, the legendary Cowboys coach receives his gold jacket and a HOF bust before the Ring of Honor induction. In just a year, Johnson transformed the Cowboys into a playoff-contending lineup and brought it into prominence.

Coach Jimmy Johnson knew Jerry Jones will take over the Cowboys

The moment Jerry Jones took over the Dallas Cowboys, it became the biggest takeover in NFL history. But Michael Irvin talked about the individual who knew that the Oil Mogul would take the franchise under his empire. It was Jimmy Johnson who spilled the beans to him.

On the Flagrant 2 comedy podcast, Michael Irvin describes the incident. He mentions, “[Jimmy Johnson] said, ‘I’m telling you right now because I’ve got an oil buddy friend of mine who’s about to buy the Dallas Cowboys.’ I’ll be joining you next year. I knew he was coming, and Jerry bought the team the next year and brought in Jimmy.”  Since then Jones is operating the franchise, and the legacy lives on.
