The wrestling fans are aware that the 16-time WWE Champion John Cena is an OVW graduate from the most elite batch. The OVW batch had future world champions like Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Randy Orton. Fans regard their batch as the legendary “OVW 4”.

Cena wrestled under the name The Prototype in OVW. He held the OVW Heavyweight Championship for three months. Also, he was the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship with Rico for two months.

Recently, John Cena appeared on Backstage’s YouTube Channel’s In the Envelope podcast. There he shed a light on his younger days when he was training at Ohio Valley Wrestling with the likes of Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Randy Orton in the same batch.

Cena said, “I just think as a young performer it’s maybe I was underqualified, I didn’t come from the independent circuit. I also wasn’t the best athlete keep. Keep in mind, my graduating class was Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Dave Batista.”

He added, That is an unbelievably gifted athletic scope right there. So I’m not the best athlete, I don’t have a wrestling background resume. I guess I just didn’t want to be misjudged, or I didn’t want the opportunity taken away from me before I could say I say it my all”

John Cena graduated from college in 1999 and was a limousine driver. At the same time, he was pursuing a bodybuilding career. As a result, he had no prior experience in pro wrestling and he knew nobody in the business.

The wrestler turned actor John Cena after discussing his time at OVW shared his views on his character change in WWE. Fans knew him as The Prototype in UPW and OVW. Later, he went by his full name on the main roster in WWE.

Cena said, “So it’s gone in phases. When you are starting out you don’t care. You want as many people to know as possible and I started out with a very clearly defined hip-hop persona and everything that I did from battle rapping kids in parking lot to local radio promotions. Any event you saw me at to my personality in WWE. If you saw me in an airport or a hotel, you saw the John Cena on television.”

Cena also, over the time when he got busier and busier understood he has two lives to live. Hence, he started embracing his WWE personality a little more into his real one while meeting the fans and being on a film promotion.
