NBA is an organization which NBA has a policy to care for society. According to the NBA cares initiative, every decision that the NBA makes they do it with society in mind. The NBA players’ association also tries to maintain equality and raise their opinion of society’s ill-treatment.
NBA had previously aligned itself against the injustice faced by the African American community during the covid bubble. The league has also uplifted many individuals from just any other sportsman to influential personalities. These sportsmen also go on to raise voices against injustice. One such personality is Enes Kanter Freedom.
Enes Kanter on Human Rights Violation
Utah Jazz drafted Enes Kanter Freedom in 2011 as 3rd overall pick. He played for the Celtics for the last time in the NBA. Enes Kanter was not such a famous player until he came to the NBA. After his inception in the NBA, the Turkish had gained attention from the fans and the Coaches because of his tall frame and rebounding technique. He also has a history of feuds with LeBron James and had even bashed him on the internet over his views on China.
Freedom has even changed his name from Enes Kanter to Enes Kanter Freedom to show his stance on social issues.
Enes had spoken up about the crimes done in China for their human rights violations and repression against the Tibetans. This had led to many disruptions in the basketball community, and Enes had even faced backlash for the same. He had even bashed the NBA for continuing their ties with China despite the Human Rights violations and prioritizing business over social issues.
Recently, in an interview for the Reason TV, Enes mentioned how the league had uplifted him as a player and person. But, at the same time, he held them responsible. He said, “If They’re Gonna Do Something Wrong, I’ll Expose Them.” This shows the compassion of Freedom for social issues in China.
